Quilting to me:

"In this crazy fast and furious world we live in I believe it is our responsibility to take time for ourselves, even if it is once a week or month. Doing what you love is one way slow the craziness down. I like to think I'm doing what I love."

2014 Block of the Month

The Block of the Month for 2014 is in full swing. I've just completed Febuary's table mat. Each table mat contains the Block of the Month.

I love the embroidery on these table mats.  Done with an outline stitch, makes this a quite and easy project each month.  The first Saturday of each month join me at the shop to get your mat started.  You welcome to use my light box to get your design transferred and if you need help getting started with the embroidery.

The monthly Kit sales for $24.99.  January's block is again getting limited.  If interested please contact me at the shop.

Enjoy your Wednesday and Happy Quilting......

Daydreams

The use of precuts is bigger then ever.  The newest group here at Pinwheel Quilting and the color
Is fantastic,  Daydreams is a group by Kate Spain for Moda.  The following quilt "Mardi Gras" is made with a Layer Cake and a Charm Pack.

The technique is Square on Square.

First you will need a template.  I made one using the cardboard from the layer cake.  Make a L shape
2 1/2" wide as the following.

You can also use the plastic template sheet as follows.  I like the plastic because you can still see
the fabric underneath.  But both will work.

Place the template in the corner of one piece of the layer cake and then place charm in the corner
Of the template.  Both squares should be different prints.  Pin two pieces together.  Do this to the
following number of squares for you desired quilt size.  Then sew smaller square down sewing about
1/8 inch from edge.

After sewing down all the squares cut the 10" square into four 5" squares as shown below.

The next step is to layout your squares using 4 different prints to make your new blocks.
Sew your blocks together to get your new block.  Repeat process until you have all your blocks
made.

Don't worry about your inner square not matching perfectly.  Won't be noticed in final quilt.
As the following block shows.

After all blocks are made layout your blocks to make your top.  Then you can add borders if
wanted.  I added 2 borders, first is a 2" border and then a 5" border.  Also I used 25 blocks
In my quilt.

Hope you enjoy this method of square on square.

2014

WOW, a new year.  It's exciting to get this new year started and get into all the new projects and finishing some of the old.  My goal this year is to get at least 3 UFO's done this year and with all the new fabrics coming in and new patterns I hope I can make my goal.  Hope you can make some goals for yourself and work toward my during the year.

One goal I have is getting my blog going.  In the last month I have learned a lot about blogging and how to do certain things, like getting things posted of my I-pad.  If this gets posted today then I have accomplished that.

Look forward to sharing new ideas and projects with you in the upcoming year.

Happy New Year and Happy Quilting, Carol
